HOBBIES: Flying – “Single engine aircraft for pleasure.”

IS THERE A CONNECTION BETWEEN FLYING AND RACING? “You know, when you fly, there is no reference point for speed. When you race, there is definitely a speed reference. As far as being related, I have no idea. I do know that I enjoy it.” (Editor’s note: Quite a few NASCAR Stars fly, Rusty Wallace and Carl Edwards just to name two.)

FAVORITE FOOD: “That’s a difficult one, I’d say Pizza and Steak, both.”

FAVORITE DRIVER: “Leon Plank (Car Owner), Leon was the first driver that I really started to watch.”

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN RACING? “I am a 1st generation driver in my family. When I was a kid, I liked to race my bike fast. My buddies and I were always making tracks in the dirt to ride our bikes on. Maybe that was my burning desire to become a racecar driver. In 1974, I drove at Eau Claire Speedway with a Streeter. It wasn’t until 1979 that I raced again. My brother-in-law, Mike Humphey came home from the service, and really put the bug in my ear to build a car. I have been racing ever since.”

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IN RACING: “As a driver, I have had so many great memories. If I had to pick the top one, gee that’s tough, I’d have to say the 2003 Punky Manor, I passed Jimmy Mars on the last lap for the win. As a race fan, I just really enjoy watching good racing from all the classes. There are some very talented young drivers in WISSOTA.”

WITH ALL THE UPS AND DOWNS IN RACING, WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK WEEK AFTER WEEK? “The competitive drive. I come out to every race to win. When you do win, you have to enjoy it, for the next day, it is old news, and you are back at it again.

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST POSTIVE THING ABOUT RACING? “The people you meet. Everyone has a common bond. Wherever you go to race, even the first time at a track, people are just super. Yes, it is the people that make racing.”
