By: Bill Freis Joliet, IL Aug. 8 The schedule has been set for the Last Stand at the Stadium auto racing event on Friday, September 11 and Saturday September 12, 2009 at the Joliet Memorial Stadium, and Hampton Inn Hotels have signed on at the Official Hotels of the Last Stand. Friday, September 11 Grandstand gates will open up at 11am. Practice for all divisions will be from 10:45am until 3:45pm. Qualifying for all divisions will be from 4 until 6:30. A special September 11th National Anthem will kick-off racing at 7pm with heat races for all divisions. Saturday the gates will swing open again at 11am. Practice for all divisions is from 10:45 through 3:30. There will be an on track vintage midget exhibition from 4 through 6pm as well as an autograph session immediately after. The National Anthem starts things up at 7:00 once again followed by fast car dashes and feature events for all divisions with the National midgets closing out the event with a 40-lap feature event. Tickets to The Last Stand at the Stadium will be available in a presale at a discounted price or full price at the gate the day of the event. You can purchase your pre-sale tickets at Ken Woody’s Sports and More in Joliet, The Hot Rod Barn (exit 105 and I-80) in Seneca, Educational Outfitters in Plainfield and at Suburban Bank and Trust Locations in New Lenox, Lemont, Orland Park and Markham. A two-day pass purchased before August 31 will be $30, while individual daily passes will be $16 for Friday and $22 for Saturday if purchased before August 31. If you decide to purchase tickets at the gate the two-day pass will be $40 dollars and single day passes will be $20 for Friday and $25 for Saturday. Children 11 and under are free throughout the weekend. Should Saturday’s events be cancelled due to inclement weather, Sunday, September 13 is the rain date. Because of the history of “The Stadium”, the finality of this event, and the large purse being offered to the competitors, the event has drawn the attention of drivers and car-owners from all over the country. Local racing expert, Mike Guglielmucci Jr. says “We have always dreamed of putting something like this together at The Stadium, but never thought it would happen. Now we have a very special opportunity to give the old place the proper send-off it truly deserves.” Hampton Inn and Town Place Suites by Marriott have signed on as the official hotels of The Last Stand at the Stadium event, offering discounted rates to anyone needing rooms for the event. Hampton Inn has locations in Joliet at I-80 and Houbolt Road in the Riverboat Center and at I-55 and Route 30.
